We need to do a state roll call here, so we can get to know one another better.

Come on.... chime in.

Hey everyone,

I used to live in Forest City Iowa but now live in Cleveland Ohio. My parents and grandparents still live in Forest City so I go there a few times a year. It would be great for someone to keep me up to date on what is going on in the lonely state of Iowa. There are so many things about Iowa I miss. Especially the quiet and peacefulness and the slow pace of a small town. In Cleveland it feels like there is always something to do and everyone is always in a hurry.

Would love to hear from you.

Anyone from Ottumwa? My husband was born and raised there (worked for the Ottumwa Courier). Who knows--we may end up moving there someday. Neither of us has anyone down here, except a good church family and best friend. His sisters both live in Iowa (one in Ottumwa), as well as a lot of friends.

Barbara:

Ottumwa is not far from I live (West Des Moines). Sound off to CaptJoeJAS@aol.com.

And one other note on Ottumwa - Didn't Radar O'Rielly hail from this wonderful place (M*A*S*H 4077)

Hi Joe, sorry it took so long to respond! Yes, Radar O'Reilly was supposed to be from Ottumwa. The interesting thing is, my husband said Ottumwa had "M*A*S*H Days" one year and invited the actors from the show. Gary Burghoff (Radar) was the only one who didn't go!

Although I now live in Michigan, I too grew up in Iowa, in Mason City as a matter of fact. Our family use to have the music store there. It was down on Federal, ( Vance Music ) From Mason we moved to Scottsdale Arizona, and then when I got married in 65 we moved to Kentwood Michigan, where my husband had an excellent job offer from Steelcase, Inc.
I still get back as often as I can. We just yesterday returned from Huxley after several days of visiting. I really miss it. I think all of Iowa must be the same, just the perfect place to raise a family. It brings back so many memories, I will always consider it the nicest place I have ever lived.

I was born & raised in Vinton, IA the fifth generation raised there. Popcorn City!!! wooohooo, my heart is still there. I have family recipes from the 1800's from my family that lived in Benton County near LaPorte City, IA. Our family still owns the homestead. Is that cool or what????
I would luv to share any recipes with any of you! just email me at info@flamingscents.com

I was raised in Osceola, left to "find my life" and now reside in New Virginia, IA (about 15 miles from where I grew up!) I guess that it is true that you can always leave the state, but there is always a draw to return! I even have cousins that were not born in Iowa who call this state home!!! Smiler

I just love to read my Grandmother's cookbook and remember the times we spent making popcorn and having "weenie" roast in the fireplace!

Send me a PM with your info and I'll call when I come to DSM again.  I was just there Sat. for a class and with shopping time coming around, I am sure I'll be there again!  Perhaps we could meet at a mall or someplace for lunch!

Hello CCofA Friends, Where is everyone at. The talk stopped in the summer and no one has been on since. I am new to the cooking club as of September. My husband got my life membership for me for our Second wedding annv. in Sept. of this year. I live in Nevada, Iowa, 12 miles east of Ames on the old Lincoln Highway (old highway 30). We have lived here for about 15 months we moved here from Council Bluffs, Iowa. I was born in Des Moines, Iowa and have lived in several cities around Iowa. Like New Virginia, Avon Lake and Osceola. Would love to hear from everyone I love to cook and bake. Bye for now, Granny.

I am not quite certain if I am doing this post correctly.  I am a new life time member with the Cooking Club.  A chef I am not but I do enjoy trying new recipes and tasting a variety of cuisines.  At the present time I am residing in Ottumwa, Iowa.  I am a Schnauzer and Iowa Hawkeye Fan!  Thank you.

Hi Granny,
How blessed you are that your husband gave you the lifetime membership as a gift!
I don't know if people respond to this site or not.  It seems as though you and I are the only ones for 2009.  I have seen posts dating back to 2005.   Just wanted to stop by and let you know there is another person out here in cyberspace reading the posts!  BFN
