Carole Resnick learned her way around the kitchen with help from her mother, aunt and grandmother. “Each was a fantastic cook and baker,” she says. But that was just the start of her education. Carole’s love of learning led her to a career as a teacher. Not one to rest on her laurels, she later went back to school, earning a masters degree in psychology at the age of 50. But her educational pursuits haven’t always strayed from the culinary arts. As Carole says, “I am currently taking a course in digital food photography.” She’s also always on the lookout for a new recipe, searching cookbooks and the Internet. “I scan various sites to find new recipes to try and adapt,” she says. Carole's recipe for Key Lime Cloud Pie (February/March 2008, pg. 12) is one such adaptation. “My family loves anything Key lime. However, we were tired of the same old boring Key lime pie,” she says. It was time to go back to the drawing board. From her knowledge of baking recipes, Carole remembered the traditional angel lemon pie. “I set out to combine the best features of both pies,” she says. It took some work, but after several attempts, Key Lime Cloud Pie was born. Some of Carole’s other recipes have also taken flight; she was a finalist in both the Sutter Home Winery’s 2003 Build A Better Burger Contest and 2006 Pillsbury Bake-Off .
