You may say filbert and we may say hazelnut, but we're both talking about the same thing, and we're both correct. In Oregon, where most U.S. hazelnuts are grown, the nut was originally named filbert. But the nut is also grown in other countries, where it's called a hazelnut. To be consistent with overseas producers, the name officially switched to hazelnut in 1995.

While hazenlut is the most common term today, you may still find filbert used in places. No matter. The nut's delicious, whatever you call it.
