French Toast Casserole
Breakfast
:: 18 Comments

“I have a large family and love to cook, so I had to figure out something that everyone would like,” says Alberta Wagy. She came up with a delicious dish that can be prepared ahead of time and makes enough to feed many hungry mouths in the morning. Serve the French toast with additional maple syrup.

1 (1-lb.) loaf French bread, cubed (1 1/2 inches)
1 (8-oz.) pkg. cream cheese, cubed
8 eggs
2 1/2 cups whole milk
3/4 cup sugar
6 tablespoons butter, melted
1/4 cup pure maple syrup

1. Spray 13x9-inch glass baking dish with cooking spray. Place half of the bread in dish; sprinkle with cream cheese. Top with remaining bread.

2. Whisk all remaining ingredients in large bowl; pour over bread, pressing on bread with spatula to soak up egg mixture. Cover and refrigerate overnight.

3. Heat oven to 350°F. Bake, uncovered, 45 minutes or until lightly browned.

I made this for my family the other weekend. It is a winner for my picky eaters. Sweet and easy to prepare. I like putting it together the night before and popping it in the oven in the morning.

This is one of my families favorite. We made it for breakfast at a family gathering the next morning. They couldn't believe how good it was. I add strawberries & whip cream as a garnish to make it really decadent.

This is a Christmas morning tradition at our house. Try adding cinnamon and vanilla to the egg mixture it adds a wonderful flavor that can't be beat

I have made this several times and it is always well received. I have also switched it up and with the cream cheese have taken a can of apple pie filling and placed spoonfulls randomly around between the bread layers. Just before baking I sprinkled the top with cinnamon. Yum! This was awesome.

=) This is really delicious but I use mascarpone cheese it gives it a more rich taste if you have a real sweet took sprinkle some chocolate chips in the middle before topping with bread cubes. It's yummy you should try it this way if you are a true chocolate lover!

I have made this adding fresh raspberries or fresh blueberries and it is GREAT. They love for me to bring this as a treat to adult Sunday School. I also have a blueberry syrup recipe that I make and put in a small crockpot when I take it.

I made this recipe and I dont believe it came out right. It was all soggy I cooked it for over an hour and the consitency never changed. Also all you could taste were the eggs. I followed the directions to a T so somethings not right and im extremely unhappy with it.
